Herkimer County College Foundation Tuition Scholarship Program
The Herkimer County College Foundation Tuition Scholarship Program assists students who reside in Herkimer County or who graduate from Herkimer County high schools with above-average scholastic ability in attending Herkimer County Community College.
For the first two semesters, the student will receive full resident tuition, less any aid received from the Federal PELL Grant, NYS TAP Grant, and other scholarships or grants designated for tuition. For the third and fourth semesters, the student will receive 50% resident tuition, less any aid received from Federal PELL Grant, NYS TAP Grant, and other scholarships or grants designated for tuition.
Application Procedure
- The applicant must apply for admission to the College using either the free Herkimer County Community College application or the State University of New York application form.
- The applicant must complete the following applications by the deadline and forward them to the appropriate addresses.
- The "Application for the Herkimer County College Foundation Tuition Scholarship Program" must be submitted to the Financial Aid Office by June 1 of the award year.
- The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and TAP (NYS Tuition Assistance Program) applications must be filed in order to determine scholarship eligibility.
Eligibility Requirements
- The applicant must be a Herkimer County resident or have graduated from a Herkimer County secondary high school.
- Herkimer County applicants must have graduated in the top 15% of his/her high school class. Non-Herkimer County resident applicants must have graduated in the top 10% of his/her Herkimer County high school class. A limited number of scholarships are available for non-resident Herkimer County high school graduates. Final class rank will be determined by the high school.
- The applicant must enroll at the College in the semester immediately following high school graduation.
- The student must enroll full-time, taking a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours of coursework during each semester.
- The student must file the FAFSA and NYS TAP applications annually.
- Eligible students will receive at least a minimum award of $100 per semester.
- The student must maintain a minimum “B” (3.0) per semester and overall average to maintain the scholarship.
- Scholarship is limited to four semesters of attendance.
Maintenance of Eligibility Statement
A recipient of the Herkimer County College Foundation Tuition Scholarship will be eligible to receive the award for four consecutive semesters, assuming full-time status. This scholarship program cannot be applied to Winter Mini or Summer Session attendance. In order to maintain eligibility, a student must earn a minimum “B” (3.0) per semester and overall grade point average, and must complete a minimum of twelve (12) credits during each semester. Failure to meet any of the above criteria will result in the loss of scholarship status. A student who loses eligibility for the award may have the award reinstated if, after a Winter Mini, Summer Session or subsequent semester (except during the fourth semester) within the student’s two-year eligibility, the student’s average is raised above 3.0, his/her eligibility can be renewed. The student who seeks to reinstate scholarship eligibility must file a request for reinstatement with the Financial Aid Office at least two weeks prior to the start of the semester for which reinstatement is sought.
In cases involving unusual or exceptional circumstances, the Foundation Office retains the right to interpret these guidelines.
